Here are the conditions needed to ensure a great milling experience.
VEHICLE ACCESS
My portable mill is pulled behind my truck, so any logs you want milled must be accessible by a vehicle with a trailer.
GOOD - An ideal amount of open, flat space around the logs
LOG PLACEMENT
Logs should be placed parallel to the access road so they can be loaded easily onto the mill.
GOOD - Logs parallel to the access road and centered
MILL SITE CLEAR AND LEVEL
There should be plenty of flat ground on all sides of the mill site where logs and lumber can be loaded and unloaded without hindrance.
NOT GOOD: logs are stacked perpendicular to the access road
NOT GOOD: logs have no open space around them for loading
